Typical of his works, this one involves quick and assertive use of lines complemented by bold swatches of colour to provide depth, contrast, and focus. Here, the three anonymous (and feminine?) faces seem to be apprehensive, with two of the three in a crouched position. The black background adds to the feeling that something might be amiss and even potentially sinister beyond our immediate view. The size of the piece, done on movie poster-sized paper, dominates the viewer's field of vision and creates a heightened sense of foreboding. While his works are frequently available as prints, it's unusual for an original to become available and the provenance of this one can be traced to a Toronto art collector who purchased it from reputable auction house, Waddington's.

Brian Grimwood is a British illustrator and founder of Central Illustration Agency, a creative house that produces commercial art for some of the world biggest brands. His distinct style that mixes sweeping lines and bold swaths of colour, has led to him being named one of the most important British illustrators in the last 50 years and credited with having changed the face of British illustration.
