From the signature, the work depicts a place called Quatapwa Valley in Saskatchewan, though no place with that name can be found on Google Maps. Throughout the sky and the water, the artist has added unusual texturing, perhaps by dabbing while still wet with crumpled newspaper, creating a disjointed sense of movement. The dark tones of the sky and water add to this moodiness and unease, even as the hills and trees in the distance are otherwise quite mundane.

Additional notes on condition: Both the artwork and the mat seem to be crudely hand measured and cut, and not at all straight, at that. There also seems to be some water damage to the mat that does not appear to have reached the front of the painting.
